Sunup Workshop Joins Forces with Filmmaker Kahli Gaskin to Develop Original South Australian Stories
Adelaide, South Australia — Boutique creative studio Sunup Workshop has announced a new creative partnership with seasoned writer and director Kahli Gaskin, marking a major step forward in the company’s expansion into film and television production.
The collaboration will see Gaskin join the Sunup Workshop team as a key creative partner, working alongside founders Isabelle Scott and Nate Fullerton to develop a slate of original, female-led screen projects rooted in South Australian stories with universal appeal.
“Partnering with Kahli was an easy decision,” said Co-Founder Nate Fullerton. “She’s one of South Australia’s most distinctive creative voices, with a remarkable ability to balance intimacy and scale in her storytelling. Her vision aligns perfectly with Sunup’s mission to create work that is authentic, emotionally resonant, and globally relevant.”
Kahli Gaskin, a seasoned writer and director, holds a commanding presence in the film industry with a career that spans decades and continents. From her early roles as a Costume Assistant on Eyes Wide Shut and working locations on films such as The King’s Speech, The Imitation Game, and Contagion, to more recent contributions to productions including Hotel Mumbai, Escape from Pretoria, Stateless, Cargo, 2067, and Desert King, Kahli’s extensive track record speaks for itself.
It is in the realms of writing and directing, however, where Gaskin’s brilliance truly shines. Beginning her career as a songwriter, she has since written and directed numerous short films and commercials, including the feature project Venus, which has been showcased at local cinemas. She also directed the 1998 documentary Moment in Time, which chronicled the twentieth anniversary of the Sydney Mardi Gras and aired on Australian television.
Beyond her film work, Gaskin’s creativity extends to literature. Her diverse body of work includes the debut novel Sycophant Novella, enchanting children’s books, and the award-shortlisted visionary concept Violette World. Her boundless imagination and dedication to storytelling are evident across her vast and varied portfolio.
“I’m thrilled to be collaborating with Isabelle and Nate,” said Kahli Gaskin. “Their approach to story development is refreshingly holistic — blending creative vision with a strong understanding of how audiences connect. Together we’re building projects that not only reflect South Australian voices but also have something powerful to say on the world stage.”
With Gaskin joining as a creative collaborator, Sunup Workshop continues to strengthen its role in shaping the next wave of South Australian screen stories — championing artistry, inclusivity, and innovation from concept to release.
