South Australian Short Film AMOK to Premiere at Flickerfest 2025
Adelaide, South Australia —
South Australia’s screen industry continues to shine on the national stage, with the short film AMOK set to premiere at Flickerfest 2025, one of Australia’s most prestigious Academy® and BAFTA-accredited film festivals.
Described as a Rom-Thrill-Com, AMOK is a genre-blending story that moves between romance, comedy, and suspense with effortless charm. Written and directed by Kahli Gaskin, the film poses one irresistible question: Can one disastrous date reignite a relationship?
What begins as a simple anniversary dinner between lovers Sam and Edie takes an unexpected turn, propelling the couple into a darkly funny and unsettling adventure that tests the limits of love, trust, and absurdity.
Produced by E. Bennett Walsh (Mortal Kombat, Kill Bill, The Kite Runner) and Isabelle Scott (Unsolved Cases), AMOK marks the first film release from Sunup Workshop’s newly established film division — a creative milestone for the Adelaide-based studio as it expands from digital storytelling into screen production.
“Flickerfest is an incredible platform for emerging voices and ambitious stories,” says Producer Isabelle Scott. “AMOK captures the kind of risk-taking, heartfelt filmmaking we want to champion — made here in South Australia, by a team that’s as inventive as it is collaborative.”
Shot entirely in South Australia, the film showcases an all-local cast and crew including Brittany Gallasch, Alexander Lloyd, and Kori Hayes, with cinematography by Jules Wurm, and editing by Andrew Shanks.
The film’s distinctive tone — both playful and unsettling — reflects Gaskin’s signature ability to balance intimacy and unpredictability.
“When I set out to direct AMOK, I wanted to capture the chaos and beauty of a relationship in free fall,” says Writer-Director Kahli Gaskin. “It’s about how love survives the ridiculous and even the terrifying. I’m thrilled that our film will make its debut at Flickerfest — it’s the perfect home for a story that refuses to sit neatly in one box.”
The selection of AMOK marks an exciting beginning for Sunup Workshop’s move into screen production. The studio is already in development on its debut feature film, continuing its mission to champion distinctive, character-driven Australian storytelling.
For now, all eyes are on AMOK — a sharp, stylish short that celebrates the creativity, humour, and heart defining South Australia’s next generation of filmmakers.
