Sunup Workshop exists to support thoughtful, independent filmmaking in South Australia. We believe regional stories deserve ambition, care, and longevity, and that creative work is strongest when it is deeply connected to the communities from which it emerges.
Our focus is on building a sustainable slate of films produced entirely in South Australia — projects that retain local talent, create meaningful employment, and contribute to a resilient screen ecosystem. Each project is approached not as a standalone endeavour, but as part of a broader, long-term vision for independent storytelling in the state.
E. Bennett Walsh is an internationally renowned producer whose career spans more than three decades across Hollywood blockbusters and acclaimed independent films, contributing to over USD $3 billion in global box office.
His credits include Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill: Volumes 1 & 2, The Kite Runner (Golden Globe nominee), The Amazing Spider-Man 2, The Great Wall, Robin Hood: Origins, Knight and Day, State of Play, Disturbia, and Men in Black: International. More recently, he produced Mortal Kombat and the forthcoming Mortal Kombat II for New Line Cinema / Warner Bros, and served as Executive Producer on Meg 2: The Trench. His upcoming work includes the thriller Subversion, starring Chris Hemsworth and Lily James.
With VINES, Walsh brings his global experience, credibility, and long-term perspective to a deeply South Australian story, supporting the growth of independent cinema beyond the traditional studio system.

Kahli Gaskin is a writer and director known for emotionally intelligent, female-driven storytelling across film and literature.
She began her creative career as a songwriter before transitioning into filmmaking, writing and directing a range of short films, commercials, and long-form projects. Her feature project VENUS screened at London’s Wallis Piccadilly as part of their SA Films program, while her documentary Moment in Time (1998), chronicling the inception of the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras, was broadcast nationally on Australian television.
Kahli’s creative practice extends into literature, with her debut novel Sycophant, a series of children’s books, and original concepts including Violette World, which was shortlisted for ABC’s Pitch-O-Rama. With VINES, she continues her exploration of relationships, identity, and quiet transformation, crafting stories that resonate on both intimate and universal levels.
Nate Fullerton is a producer at Sunup Workshop, leading audience strategy, financing pathways, and investor relations across the slate.
With more than 20 years’ experience in sales, marketing, and brand strategy, Nate has worked with some of Australia’s most recognisable brands, developing a strong understanding of audience behaviour, positioning, and growth. Within Sunup, he plays a key role in bridging the creative and commercial worlds — guiding marketing strategy from development through to release and ensuring projects are positioned for success across festivals, markets, and distribution platforms.
His work ensures Sunup’s films are creatively ambitious, commercially informed, and designed to connect meaningfully with audiences.
VINES is the first feature within Sunup Workshop’s long-term slate — a contemporary South Australian drama set across the Adelaide Hills and the city.
The film explores relationships, identity, and quiet personal change, and embodies Sunup’s commitment to character-driven storytelling, regional authenticity, and sustainable production. VINES represents the foundation of a broader vision for independent filmmaking in South Australia, with future projects already in development.
